Speckled Earth Clay

textured body with natural iron specks

1000-1080°C

Red Clay – 50% *(adds warm tone and plasticity)*  

Ball Clay – 20% *(improves workability and strength)*  

Silica (Flint) – 15% *(helps vitrification)*  

Fine Sand or Grog – 10% *(adds texture & reduces warping)*  

Manganese Dioxide – 2-4% *(creates speckling in firing)*  



 

 

 

Gritty Buff Textured Body

Earthenware Look .

A grainy, buff-colored clay with a natural feel.

 

900-1050°C

 

 Fireclay – 40% *(adds a coarse, sandy texture)*  

Ball Clay – 30% *(plasticity and binding strength)*  

Kaolin – 15% *(whitens body slightly, soft texture)*  

Sand (Coarse) – 10% *(grit & added texture)*  

Iron Oxide – 2-3% *(warmer buff tone & richness)*  

 

 

 

Volcanic Grog Body

Textured & Pitted Surface.

For extreme surface texture & cratered effects

950-1100°C

Ball Clay – 40% *(plasticity & strength)*  

Red Clay – 30% *(rich tone & workability)*  

Volcanic Pumice or Coarse Grog – 20% *(rough texture & pits after firing)* 

Silica – 5% *(helps fusing without over-melting)*  

Manganese Dioxide – 3-5% *(intense speckling, darker breaks)*  

 

 

 

Rustic Orange-Red Body

Warm & Textured, fiery orange-red with broken surfaces

1000-1100°C

 

Red Clay – 60% *(warm, natural color)*  

Fireclay – 20% *(grainy texture, added durability)*  

Coarse Grog – 10% *(rough texture, reduced shrinkage)*  

Ball Clay – 5% *(plasticity & structure)*  

Iron Oxide – 3% *(deepens reddish tone & richness)*
